Fluidized bed in a wet dry filter ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking good, I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.

What type of sand are you going to use?

Is there a reason most people run the intake through the inside of the FBF? It seems like an input at the bottom would allow more usable volume inside the FBF.

There would be more usable room with the inlet entering from the side at the bottom. You would need a thicker wall main body tube though and acrylic tube gets fairly spendy the thicker wall you have. I am trying to make this with what I have laying around the house and some labor. So far the only thing I have bought is the weld-on cement and 15" of 3/4'' clear acrylic tube.
I think I am going to use some small pea gravel and silica sand/pool filter sand for media. I have that also.

This is the mock up so far.

Should work well. You may not need even need the gravel. The diffuser plate you made should spread the water nicely, gravel may inhibit the even flow.

looks great... cant wait to see it running :)

Thanks the weld-on cement showed up yesterday I am still waiting on the inlet tube so I can do a final mock up before gluing.

This only makes me want a fluidized bed filter even more! Good job on the construction, quality work...

I would just leave it without the cap as it looks as though it would work better.

Thanks for the compliment. I did modify the top plate so that the water would flow the same as the vid. I am setting it up now on my tank and will post another vid when I am done.
Here is the mod I did to the top plate and a finished pic.
