Flushing live fish

We are on a septic tank so that would just be to mean. Guess it is just as mean on city sewers but..... Nope not a live fish. It would be kinder to bonk it on the head. Not that I do that either but.....

I read somewhere (possibly embodiment agency here in the uk) that flushing fish introduces or can introduce non native pathogens into the water, same as burying a fish outside can... I also could never knowingly flush a live fish through raw sewage, I mean, I wouldn't want to die that way...

Alive? and to let them suffer more? While I agree it depends on the case and how sick the fish is. I'll never agree to flush a live fish though.

Wasn't really commenting on whether flushing the fish live or dead. My comment was more geared to other reasons for putting a fish down then just being a "lazy prick".

But just to be clear, I have no problems flushing a live fish that is near death.

Clove oil can be purchased at any drug store. Put some on a cotton ball and it's over pretty quickly.

I just sever the spinal cord like I do when I clean the fish I catch for food... IF meds ect aren't an option. Not every fish is curable, but I at least try if they are fighting... when a fish just rolls over or lays there and has no "fight" left in them I pull and cut their head off to be 100% honest. It doesn't happen often, but imo its the cleanest death I can give them.

That's my thoughts on it but everyone else seemed to either think it was humane or didn't care. The one guy who threw out his live fish really made me mad

I try my hardest to cure them. There was one instance with my poor fire eel---I had to euthanize him-----he was suffering and it was the kindest thing to do. I never flush any fish---I just think it is disrespectful. Right now I have one of my Bolivian Rams in the sick tank--don't think he is going to make it, but I'm giving him a chance.

So what is the respectful way of disposing of dead fish?

TBH we freeze them and toss them on garbage day.. but thats because we haven't had one small enough to flush once its dead w/out taking our chances w/ plumbing.

Or you can first put clove oil in the toilet and then put the fish in. Super convienent. It could clog to the system over time.

Alternate way recomended.
