Fluval 103 help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wolf3101 I hate to disagree with you... I wouldn't put a 103 on the 30 and say that it will handle it no problem... these filters were actually in use up to 30 years ago according to my research... they are only rated for 103 gallons per hour when it was new... at best now it's prob only pushing 70-80? A 30 Gallon would need a min of 120 gallons per hour...so he's better off using this on a 10 -20 IMO

Read a little closer. He is also running a Whisper 30 on that tank. The two together will have no problems. If it is filled with scrubbies, it will reduce the load and run very well.

I am running it independently on a 10g with a small sponge filter. I was going to use it in my 30g but didn't have enough hose.

I did set it about 2 feet below my tank but I didn't notice a difference.

HOW you set up and run a filter is usually a lot more importiant than what your running that filter on....

For a 10 gallon tank it's more than enough filtration on it's own but it's bieng used with a sponge filter.

It would be on the light side for a 30 gallon as the only filtration but along with the wisper would be more than adiquate if set up primarilly a bio-filter.

I also got a fluval 2 (I think) that I just cleaned up and put in the 10g tank along with the fluval 103 and the small sponge filter. I've never had a filter like this either but it seems like it will be a really good filter for the 10g tank.

It looks almost identical to this

which I found here- http://www.hagen.com/uk/aquatic/manuals/fluvic12.cfm

the only difference is that between parts 7 and 1 there is a cotton pad that fits over part 1. It looks like it was stock in these filters because part 1 would not fit snugly without this. The only problem is that it is not in the diagram above. It looks just like this

and it says its for my filter but its not in my diagram? So either a.) I have a older model or b.) I have some extra filtration. There is also a plate on the back of my filter that slides onto another piece with suction cups on it to secure it to the tank (which I think is part 9.)

If somebody could help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated. I think that it is a older model since some of the stuff I got is from the late 80's-early 90's.

I REALLY hate those things....
