thats my plan!I think you may be right with that little filter pad at the top that is so compressed.I went and bought some other stuff that I think will allow it to flow harder and smoother.I hope it works.Dont get me wrong-when I first clean it-it does work very well-but to clean it is a pain in the butt.I gotta unhook it-drag it out from under the stand and you all know what it takes. And that is not a big deal for me if its once every 2 months or so but not every single week.Ill try that other stuff I got and hopefully get at least 2 weeks out of it.1 thing I do like about it is no priming is necessary once you refill it after cleaning. The fluval is a real pain in the butt to get started again but still blows away the renaRonBurgundy;2771370; said:I have both the XP4 and the Fluval 405. Both are great filters. The one problem with the XP4 is their micron polishing pad that you load as the last material at the top. It's just to fine and will make you clean the filter every week ot two becaue of noticible reduced flow. I solved that issue by not using their micron pad anymore and just started using a bulk poly pad and cut it to size. I only sevice the XP4 every 2 months and the flow is still good at that time.
LOL!
