Fluval 404 problems

I have a 4 year old 404. It was used for approx 2 years, then in storage for 2 years.

I hooked it up 2 weeks ago and the latch for the hose connection (blue lever in the picture) was very difficult to latch. I double-checked that there were no obstructions, rubbed water on the rubber o-rings, etc.

I did my first filter cleaning yesterday. Latch went down, then popped up a bit. up, down, up, down... Finally I won that battle.

Should I be looking at new o-rings?? ideas?

Is it leaking?

No leaks. But just to be sure, I've always kept the Fluval in a rubbermaid tub.
