Pot scrubbies FTMFW!

I run filter floss in the first basket, rings in the second and pot scrubbies in the last basket. I have 4 fluvals running that way and it works out great.

I have a Fluval 305 on my 55g, and I run Fluval prefilter media in the bottom tray and biomax in the top 2 trays. Works great for me (in addition to my ac110). I haven't seen much effect from using clearmax.

What about running carbon in the filter? Are you not supposed to use carbon all the time? I was under the impression that it was required...If the fluval is the only filter I am running what are the absolute requirements to be in there?

You don't need the carbon unless you are trying to remove some meds that might be in the tank.
I would run the setup I recommend earlier, run filter floss in the first basket, ceramic rings or pot scrubbies in the second and ceramic rings or pot scrubbies in the last basket.

I recommend dedicating your filters to mech or bio.

Run one with

VERY coarse sponge
-> coarse sponge
-> fine sponge
-> polishing pad

and fill the other with biomedia
and either a very coarse prefilter
or none at all.

I like mech filters that catch everything
and bio filters that never get cloged.

I run mine pretty similar to wolfie8000. I adjust it as I need it. I only use carbon if I had to medicate the tank and want to get the meds out.

i have a 405-i keep ceramic rings and pantyhose with purigen in it..
