Fluval 405 or a Ehiem 2217?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah thats a nice fish - got about 40+ of them last year and I'm way behind this year. Not to brag, There are plenty of northern/colder water fish that I dream about too.

I hear ya. Sorry to throw you off track - let's see some pics when this tank gets up and running!

get the 405 and use eheim media (substrate pro)...that way you get the price of the 405 and eheims great media..both have good flowrate

No comparison, Eheim 2217 100%. More powerful pump, better media, better quality, lower price.

Fluval 405 $199.99 (big als)
Eheim 2217 $143.99 (big als)

No point getting a fluval, as their pumps are not as strong.

no point? boy you eheim guys just give zero love to any other filters dont you...they are both good bro so saying no point is a bit much.

I was reading a post the other day of an eheim from 1974 still going today, i just want to know how many other filter beside eheim will be running for that period of time.
Its amaizing to read about people giving advice about what filter its the right for me based in the solo experience of owning one brand or one typical model, i remenber when i started in the hobby i bought stuff asking other people opinions, to find out what was the best value for the money and now i realize it was a mistake, i wasted money buying filters that i was not happy until i got my first eheim, never look back.
Eheim are well build, reliable, quiet very important for some people, eheims are the best filters and no question about that, people who owns eheim don't have to worry about their fish but enjoy it, not to come home an worked on the filtration so often or replace parts.
I not going to mention brands and models of other filter but i remenber the frustrations,
time, etc. My suggestion for any one who wants to buy a filter read the bad reviews, then you will have a good picture.
My experience with many different filters, the best are eheim, nu-clear, ocean clear, aqua clear.

I am not an Eheim guy because I think they are good. I am an eheim guy, because I have used most canister filters out on the market. I know the Eheim is better from experience. Run the two filters stats wise along side each other, the eheim wins, run them along side each other in real life, the eheim will out perform, run them along side each other price wise the eheim wins. There is a reason fluval redoes their canisters every few years, and the classic eheim has been around for 30.
