Fluval 405 questions???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To me the 405 has 2 halves. One side is the" vertical" tray that holds 4 foam blocks. The other side has 4 "horizontal" trays that all stack on each other.

The plastic piece that you pull out and has four long rectangular slots that's where you would put for long rectangular foam blocks

Ok. So I need to get some foam for that side too. I will order some from ebay. I've been running that filter for over 6 months with just foam in the stackable trays. I had no clue what goes in the other side. I am trying to mess around with my filter a little more often so I can feel more comfortable with it. I am very intimidated by it and in 6 months this is the first time I've messed with it.

Does anyone know what could've cause my filter to leak once I put the long rectangular tray back in? It never leaked before and I would like to avoid it happening again. Could it have simply started to leak because there was too much water in the canister when I inserted the tray? If so then I will just have to remember to empty some of the water before inserting the tray the next time.

It was leaking when It was closed and running. The leaking stopped once I took the long tray out.

The trays can only fit in 1 way, the drain hose outlet should be positioned over the verticle trays that hold the sponges. The return hose where the pump is should be positioned over the small stacking media trays. The top tray will have a lid which fits snugly into the return pump inlet on the top half of the canister. If anything gets mixed around its not likely to seat and seal correctly.

I used to love canisters. Lots of screwing around. Life is busy, I'd rather mess with a sump or a hob filter.

Fluvals are pretty user friendly. Once you get it down it won't be a big deal. Maybe check some youtube videos? I had to when I couldn't get my eheim to prime
