You want me to buy an FX5 for a 75 gallon?

...although they are only $175 on ebay.

why not? it's cheap enough and work the best for 75g...when you upgrade your tank then you dont need to worry about buying more filter. :D

Is it worth spending extra money on an XP3, or should I just buy a Fluval 404? I am getting the tank this weekend.

if i have an option i would go with xp3 or the fluval 404 just IMO.

I'd love to have an FX5, but I can't justify spending more on the filter than the whole tank setup.

I think I will get the 404. I already have one and I like it, and they are dirt cheap compared to others.

well if you said so...do you ever think of upgrade some day? if you do then you will be needing bigger filter either way?

I don't like upgrading. I like buying a larger tank but keeping all the old ones too.

IMO fluval/ehiem is a better filter ...if i got room in my stand i will get a FX5,and i'll be happy and just STFU lolz i never tried any XP but i got 2 #405 ,2 ehiem #2028 ,# 2026 ,im love them all

I would recommend you fluval 405 they are really great I got two of them and I never
had any problems, the flow rate is very good,I also got xp3 and I really don't like it
and I will explain you why:
rena xp3 has only 3 chambers for media and slow flow rate,it pipes are horrible to use as they are cheap hard plastic!!
fluval 405 have a big foam pre-filter and 4 chambers which are divide into 2 so in fact you have 8 chambers!!that means you can put more different media into filter.
the pipes in fluval are nice to clean and very flexible and very easy to use!!
and also i think that fluval 405 is way more advadence then rena xp3!
i would really recomend you to go with fluval 405 or fx5 but i would never recomend you rena xp 1,2,3,4 never!

That is my issue as well.

I like the simplicity of the 404 but the effectiveness of the fx5 is awesome. 1" in and 1" out, that's what filtration is all about

in my opinion you should get fluval 405,that is a best filter I have ever own!
great value for small money!
