What is the trick to open the bastard everytime I go to do my maintance on the I have a hell of a time getting them open. I broke one of the primers so I prime it with a pump now lol.

One day I'm gonna sump my 200 instead of these 2 405 and 4 sponge filters

Lol :)
Have you ever had someone in a headlock and tried to pop their head off? Same idea. Strong arm up top, the other around the base ;)

btw, what kind of Ford do you have?

The trick is to pick it up, walk over to the bin; and throw it in, then replace with any other filter :p

Nah I'm being harsh, FMA4ME has the technique spot on lol; but I recently gave up on the Fluval 406 as it was a major annoyance even doing anything with it

I got a 72 f100
I have got to setup a sump and ditch the dam canisters. I know I'm lazy with my canister maintance but it's such a pain in the ass.

I agree they are difficult to open. I use a butterknife and pry it apart. I think they are a long lasting dependable filter, unlike the bigger cousin FX.

Hello! I have a few Fluval canisters and they are designed to be opened with the same gray clasps that hold the top to the bottom. It is easier to make a video then try to explain. Give me a few minutes.

LOL I love that you actually made a video on this, and that I didn't even realise that was how you opened it...for over a year until now lmao.

The problem I've had with one of mine (I have two) is that the impeller cover keeps coming loose. I will snap it on making sure it clicks in. It will be running along, then randomly the filter will start making a rattling noise and sure enough, I open the top and the impeller cover has come off. I snap it back in and it happens again. Sometimes it goes for days or weeks before it comes loose.Anyone else have a problem like this with theirs?
