Fluval Biomax

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
doesnt really work like that. If you add a kg of biomax your biological potential is alot greater, but you have to wait for it to seed. You will only grow as much bacteria as there is amm and nitrite to feed it.

Just want to elaborate a lil. Your total bacteria count depends on your total bio load. They must eat to survive and colonize. Adding 1000 grams of biomax would go along way to letting you add fish one at a time untill the bacteria catches up. But adding 1000g of biomax and adding a dozen fish at the same time is not a good idea.imo

I currently have 500 grams of fluval biomax and 13.6 oz of AC 110 biomax in an AC 110. I have a 60 gallon tank with 2x 3" plecos, 1x 6" flagtail, and 8x 3-4" cichlids. I really want to add 8x 2" clown loaches. Should I buy more biomax, or wil adding more fish just mean more bacteria will grow on the old biomax?

A bigger tank and more filtration will have a great affect than adding more biomax.

Depending on your cichlids and plecos, clown loaches might not be a wise addition.

Heck, depending on the cichlids and the plecos, the tank might be pushing it soon stocking wise.

Yeah with cichlids i like to double up the filtration. Personally i would add another filter but thats just me. You are certainly not underfiltering if you keep up on wcs. That being said if theres room in the ac for more biomax than adding more is a good choice. I have no exp with clown loaches so i would just be talking out of my a@@ if i gave u advice on that.

My main reasoning for adding another filter is that it makes maintaining them easier. I just clean out one every other time. plus if one breaks it gives you more time. Plus if you wanty to change the entire contents of one filter it wouldnt be as bad.

It's 2x 3" gold nugget plecos and 8x 3- 4" frontosas. All my fish species are slow growers and so I figure slow growing clown loaches would be a perfect fit. I do 40% w/c weekly. So looks like I'm overstocking huh?

Gotta respect a man's honesty.

It's just that the tank looks pretty empty even with 11x fishes in it. I would really love to have 8x clown loaches in it.

Clowns are slow growing, but they grow quickly when they are small. I started with some 2 inch clowns about 4-6 months ago and they are around 4 inches now. Not a huge difference, but when you have 8 of them haha

I would say, it depends on dimensions. If it is a 60 gallon that is about 12 inches wide, I would not add anything else since it is not wide enough. If it is a little wider than that, I would probably try like 4 clowns. Clowns are very active creatures.

Unless you have a bigger tank planned very soon (100+ gallon)

Never kept fronts so I can't say too much about them other than I heard they are aggressive eaters haha
Make sure they will not eat the clowns
