Fluval Evo Saltwater Startup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Live sand may bring stuff but it shouldn’t be too bad. I’ve never added stuff for corals and all of mine are thriving. Only bad thing are the shrooms which refuse to open (weird considering they are supposed to be one of the least fussy).
Really the biggest advice is avoid petco. Nothing good comes from petco (ask me how I know).

I have already read. Sucks though. Closest pet store that has anything is a good 45 minute drive.

Gonna put him in qt or treat the whole tank?
I know prazi can kill any hitchhiker fan or bristle worms and cause a large die off/parameter spike if there are a lot in there.

no QT system setup for salt, just gonna do it all and keep up with water changes post treatment

If you have an emerald crab... keep an eye on it. Mine just tore my brittle star’s leg off right in front of me.
Of course I’d imagine the puffer would make short work of all crustaceans in there...
Speaking of which, how’s treatment going?

How big is the brittle star??

Only about 2-3 inches diameter with all its legs, the way he is now probably an inch. Easy prey, but still a pain when it happens. He seems to think he is more of a normal star, actually moving around the tank rather than staying put.

I still think my emerald killed my watchman.. he’s aggressive doesn’t like anyone going near instantly throws his claws up. Puffer looks fine now but seems to have spread to one of the clowns. Right now my biggest pain is algea on my glass, not even on my coral so it’s frustrating!

Algae will go away as the tank matures, at one point it would cover the glass in 3 days, my most recent I hadn’t cleaned the tank in almost 2 weeks and there was barely any algae.
Also get lots of astrea snails. I picked up 5 to go with the 1 I had, and it has made a huge difference. I plan to get even more.

Pretty sure my emerald crab was partly responsible for my firefish, the other half was velvet getting too much for it. But he also has a taste for coral, specifically clove polyps.
