My filter wasn't even used for a full year! Purchased from the "the man" (petsmart) back in the day when they sold the big 404s. The only thing I can feel around the flat side near each curve on the sealing area is a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bit of roughness for about a 16th of an inch. I think its just how they're made because it was on the same spot near every curve of the case.... I dont think that is the problem.
I was able to seal it "visual" better by squezing the top down on to the base after the latches were shut and the top was sealed. I shouldn't have to do that but maybe its what i need to do. I'll try hooking it back up tommorow for a test, its to late tonight. O and thanks for the advice fellas
anyone now if its possible to get rid of the ribbed hose and use normal tubing? I'd like to put a check valve in, just in case, if I get this thing hooked back up.
yep those are the ones... Anyone have any ideas how to swap them with regular tubes? I'd love to use something i could put a check valve in.
*Also found a common sense solution on another thread - on the tube that takes the water out of the tank (for some reason my brain can't recall the name of that) Just under the water line of the tank drill a 1/8" hole, so once the power goes out it will only siphon to that point and stop.
I guess with all the problems happening i didn't think of the obvious solution.
I haven't tried this yet, but if you use regular clear 3/4" tubing with the fluval rubber adapters($3.99 for two at my LFS) that may work. I lost the fluval directional duckbill so I bought a generic one and attached it to the ribbed tubing with the rubber adapter and it works like a champ. I figured the fluval engineers knew we were going to lose things so they devised a way to connect non-standard(Fluval) pieces to industry standard hosing. Hope this helps you.
