fluval fx-5 with a booster pump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you are right 12 volt man. I just hooked it up nice to the outlet. fluval unplugged. It is a little more with the magdrive than the fluval power. Probably will just use each thing for what it was designed for in the end. oh well...had to f with things a bit. there i go thinking again!

would work better with the pump on the output that way no unusual pressure builds as the filter becomes blocked

Why take the chance when the consequences will be a flood in your house? I'm not sure the little bit of extra performance is worth the risk. My FX5 works superbly. My 125 gallon is crystal clear. What more could I ask for?

I wouldnt do it, like you said, why not just use the fx5's all mighty powerful impeller and then make a sump or wet dry for the mag drive?!

but its on the intake.

increases the internal pressure of the canister dramatically.

a great way to compromise seals..
No crap dude. Thats why I said as long as its on the OUTPUT! the OP got what I said.

wow on the outlet......never thought that way!

I wouldnt do it,
There would be no "chances" to take if hooking it up correctly.

i have done similar things to cheap canister filters it works well BUT always hook up to the outlet so it sucks the water through the canister.
A fluval fx5 has a great standard flow rate and unless you want to pump a 6' head of pressure i dont see the point.

You don't have to worry about head pressure from height in a canister for flow rates. Since you have equal pressure on the suction side as you do on the discharge side. :)
