So, im going to buy a Fluval Fx5 Canister Filter for ym 72g here in a few days, but before I do, I want my fellow MFKers opinions on it.

Are you guys satisfied with yours? How do you like it? Any complaints? Any reviews? Any tips? Etc, etc, etc..

I want to know every good and bad experince you have had with your Fluval Fx5, so I can be prepared ahead
of time.

Also, it will be going in my bedroom, so any issues with noise would be great to know ahead of time, so I can expect it. Again, its going on my 72g.

Thanks for any info guys.

I've owned a few fx5's. I have no complaints at all. I would stay away from the polishing pads (the white ones) and keep all three trays filled with media. The blue pads work good as well. Um....tips, utilize the outlet nozzle for full circulation. Tricks, you can run hard lines instead of "rippled" hoses (less drag IMO). Or you can use 1" tubes for your inlet and outlet.

prolly best canister filter ive used, but i prefer sump easier to do to maintenance, its not a quiet filter thats for sure

I've been reading that a lot of people are having problems with thier Fx5 spurting micro-bubbles a lot. Is this very common? Is there a way to stop them?

The polishing pads....that is why I said don't use them.

I find if I don't put the polishing pads in I get a lot of bubbles blue or the white ones both work but the blue one dose not get clogged as fast. I think I got a rock in the impeller and it now is loud but before that it was very quite.

Agreed...the blue pads are boss for micro filtering in replacement of the polishing pads. If water changes are constant, then the polishing pads are redundant. As for your rock, remove it as soon as possible. It will ware your motor Down and slow the flow rate.

Ok, so no polishing pads fixed the problem..

I've also heard that the o-ring will wear and leak after a couple of months, but all you need is oil or vaseline around it every now and then, right?
