fluval fx5 hard plumbing?

I've never actually seen an FX5 in person, do the valves come off of the top of the filter? Even if they do, it still really wouldn't be a waste of money, a secondary shutoff in case a valve breaks would be a good backup to have. I have a 404 with the built in shutoff and still use secondary valves just in case. For about $11.00 it's worth having.

well the FX5 comes with an extra valve (you can use it for draining and water changes (I will probly use it when my 220 is delivered), but if a valve breaks you will need to replace it as that is how the hose attaches to the filter...
