Fluval FX5 issues

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My FX5 motor died on me a few weeks back. Hagen sent me a new motor and it's running fine so far (knock on wood). I can definitely see sand getting into the filter and causing problems because the motor sits at the bottom of the canister. Sand would normally just settle on the bottom of canisters where the motor is in top.

Could be his tank is not high enough.. The top of the water Must be over 18 inches higher thae the top of the filter. So the higher the better. If it is just at 18 inches or less then, this will cause problems with your filter.

They block monthly if you use the real deal fluval blue foam pads made for the FX5. They keep the water super clean, but if you don't replace monthly the flow rate drops like a lead weight. So im using tetratec style foam pads in their places so I don't have to open the thing every month!
