So i just started up my fx5 for the first time. I can't help notice that it is rather loud. Is this normal for the fx5? I am not used to running such a large canister.

It could be air in the system aswell. Mine did the same thing when i first started it up. After all the air was purged it quieted down.

Check if there's any small particle logged inside the motor/intake. Also, make sure the intake doesn't suck up the air.

ChiPerf funny you say that. Now that the air has worked out of the fx5 it is not bad at all. All the noise is coming from the ACs.

So I have had the filter running for a couple days now and it seems pretty good. I bought it used and it seems overall in good shape. Did a thorough inspection of it and nothing stood out. It's running with the foam pads around the outside of the media containers and ceramic noodles in the containers. The out flow is not as strong as I imagined it would be. I feel a soft current from the outflow but nothing that really pushes my hand out of the way. Does this seem right? Sorry don't know how to describe better.

there should be real good discharge. did you buy it used? also what medias are you using in each of the three trays? if you have excess polish pads they clog up fast and restrict flow.
