Fluval FX5 Problem

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have gone over everything countless times, checked the in/out-take/tubing, o-rings, taken the thing apart over and over. Everything looks like it's ok, the impeller looks like new. It a big and boring job taking this filter apart :/
Yesterday it started acting up again, I tilted the filter and it kicked in.. I just want to KICK it :)
Good thing I have other filters running, they have been running far longer than the FX5. I have Rena XP4 and XP3, also Eheim 2229 wet dry filter

Agree absolutely. Sometimes I wanna just SMASH IT ! Serious man.
If its smashed. .. then I have an excusr to get a eheim to replace it:D

Try this before u buy new parts (or smash it lol). Take the impeller out and dip the rod/rubber parts in Vaseline. Vaseline is non-toxic and won't mix with water. I haven't owned an fx5 so I'm not sure what the impeller looks like (although I was thinking about ordering an fx6 from Amazon tonight...) but I did this on my old magnum 350 after new gaskets didn't help and its been silent ever since. The rattling sounded just like u described before that so hopefully it works for ya!

Ok seems I managed to fix it, I placed some soft cloth under the motor, it's been running fine for over one week.. Dunno what it is, perhaps the motor is shaking just enough to make the impeller unbalanced .. shrug

That's good to hear both mine have been running sweet for over a year with no issues.
