hi everyone. i'm fairly new to fish keeping and i currently have 2 fire eels and a silver aro in a 55 gal tank. i just bought a 600 litre tank to house them in and it will arrive in 5 weeks time. i also bought a fluval fx5 for this tank. i need some advice from the wise people on this site on what ti use as the best filter media for as my set-up for my fish. thanks and all advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

what i did was put the water polishing pads on the bottom, zeo-carb in the middle then the bio max on top. it says to put the bio max in the bottom but i didnt know that tell later and it has been working fine in my 300. and for a friend of mine for a couple years. good luck and the fx5 booklet tells you were the best place to put the media.. have fun.

you dont need any extra mechanical filtration in an fx5 the foam thats already in it is enough jsut fill up the trays with biomax

so many people say not to put pot scrubbies in but all 3 of my trays are jam packed and this filter works amazing and i have it on a 220 heavy stocked tanks I have plent of biological bacteria my water params all read 0

i've read in a few forums but pot scrubbies. do you replace them after so many months or just clean them?

Fluval Biomax for all 3 baskets, u don't need that other crap.....IMO...
the FX5 is already a sponge king..the mechanical filtration is covered.

if i were u i would buy another filter to assist the FX5. i use a FX5 and Eheim 2028 pro 2 on my 120 gal. Eheims are great for biological filtration!
u wont regret buying one...

FYI those polishing pads are notorious for clogging and reducing flow. they must be bought again and replaced u cant clean them..
