Fluval fx5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok I got my filter, now I just need to get the media. I was thinking in the top tray using the fluval pre-filter media with some kind of pad on top for mechanical filtration. 2nd and third tray use the fluval boimax biological media stuff. I will not use the polishing pads or fine pads since you guys say they just clog up fast anyways. I want to try to set it up low maintenance. Does this sound like a good setup? I am open to any other ideas and also where to aquire the media for the best price, How much will I need to buy to fill up all three trays? Thanks!

I have had mine now for about a year and all I have used was polyfil in the top tray and scrubbies in the rest works for about 3-4 month before i need to change polyfil and rinse foam on the sides and the best part its super cheap

Top Tray: Loving Pets filter fiber on the outside, biobag with Zeo-Carb on the inside
Mid Tray: Loving Pets filter fiber on the outside, bioballs on the inside
Bottom Tray: Bioballs on the outside and inside

Not too experienced with canister filters, but then again, I just bought it 2 days ago...

Might put a bag of purigen in the top basket along with the Zeo-Carb.

i run fluval bio media in the two bottom baskets, and purigen in the top basket(pristine water always)
