Fluval FX6 canister filter experiences and set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got one sitting on a counter beside my 75 gallon it works fine. it is about 3 or 4 inches below the water line in the tank. I filled it with water and plugged it in. it has a auto purge system and worked the air out of the system the first night it was plugged in.
it does that every day if you pay attention to it. it purges air every 24 hours automatically.

That's good to know thanks. Would you mind being a bit more precise on the measurement, i.e 3" or 4"? I am wondering how far you could push it before you lost flow considering it is a gravity fed filter. The instructions state 20 cm or 8" but i would imagine that is a safety buffer on the part of the manufacturer and if you are at 3 or 4" then it would be intersting to know if you could get away with 1" between the lid and water level. If you could i may well be in luck!!

jim ill take some measurement's and ill try to find some stuff to put under the filter and raise it higher to see how it works at closer to a inch from the water level.

I put a couple blocks of wood under the filter I have it with in a half inch of the water level in the fish tank. its working just fine. I got a video ill try to upload of the filter on the blocks of wood. The top of the filter sits 3.5 inches below the top of the water level when its sitting on the bar with nothing under it.

This is the filter on 2 1 inch blocks. The water level is less then a inch from the top of the filter. I'll leave it like this for a few days to give it a good test.

The fruval is my only filter on that tank. The female is eating 2 times per day. But she has skipped a few feedings. She has ate shrimp, night crawlers, and cichlid gold sinking pellets.
