I know there are a few other threads on here about the Fluval G series, but nothing within the last 12 months...

I gather that most people on here (except you, Yuki!) seem to bash the Fluval G Series filters primarily based on cost relative to bioload capability. While I will admit that the cost is high for the amount of filter, I also could not resist buying one given the opportunity. I had hands on experience installing and maintaining for several months a G3 that I did not own. The thing is SO QUIET and SO EASY to service that I immediately loved it.

I agree that the cost is high for the bioload, but the silence and ease of service make the difference for me. I have DIY sumps and traditional HOB and in tank filters, and I don't mind doing the work when appropriate, but the G series means that at least one of my setups will be quick and easy to maintain. I just started a new job, and this purchase was my splurge in celebration. I went with the larger G6, just to have as much flexibility in the future, but for the time being it will be going on my 60 gallon community tank, which I will be moving my son's nursery before he is born ;). I can't wait for it to be cycled (currently running in tandem with my old Penguin 400) so I silence the chug of the old filter! I justified the purchase to my wife based on noise, and as soon as I put it on she said "there is just more stuff, and it makes the same amount of noise". So I unplugged the HOB for a minute... She wants me to buy one for another tank in my living room!

To everyone who has ever hated on the Fluval G Series filters, you are just upset that you can't afford them for your gallonage! Stop trying to compare them to other canisters or other styles of filters for that matter, the Fluval Gs have features that no other unit has, and those features certainly do have their place. The flow, temperature, and conductivity logs are also cool, if you are a data geek.

I'm agreed with you there cause I'm another G6 series user, price doesn't matter to me if it keep the minimal time for maintenance when you have more than 3 tanks to services almost every week and its run EXTREMELY QUIET! :)

Well done! I can only say if you have money for G series then go for it, it well worth money spend and you won't regret for the decision! If you have few tanks running and at night time your house is like water factory of water sound (sometimes its can be fun but some nights you just can't handle the noises lol) I wish Fluval make bigger unit for 400G~700G I'm not hesitate spend my money for those either.

I have long coveted these filters. I would really like to try the G3 on my 40br. Unfortunately for my wallet, the cost is still prohibitive. It's nice to know that if I ever cave and buy one though, it will not be money wasted.

I just cant see any reason to buy a G series over a FX6. It takes 2 G series to do what the FX6 does. Has about half the performance and media volume. In the FX6 i can run whatever chemical media i want and im not locked down to the proprietary G series filter. The FX6 is like 330 which isnt far off from the G series. So for my tank i would run 2x FX6 filters. I would need roughly 4 G Series pumps to do what the FX6 does. So im spending more to have the same filtration/performance. The only benefit to the G series is the gimmicky LCD display that keeps track of media changes, pump flow, and temperature. Maintenance is not as easy as the G series but to be honest rinsing out sponges in tank water and changing out 2 carbon bags and adding filter floss is really pretty simple. Unless im missing something the juice just isnt worth the squeeze.

I refer you to the original post, which your reply seems ignorant of. If you need fewer words, here they are.

Silent operation. Easiest, cleanest, driest maintenance.

You can argue the ease of maintenance between FX6 and G series, but anyone who has worked with both would agree that the G is easier and cleaner to service.

It may be easier, and have some cool features, but when considering what filter to get in a cost/benifit analysis I am not sure personally that the extra features it has are enough to counteract the extra cost over other fluval filters.

Cool. You did a pretty good job talking down to me.
Still does NOT make it better then the FX series to many. Maybe for YOU. But higher flow rate and media options and higher capacity matter to some.

Well, you did a pretty good job ignoring most of what I had said... Thank you for your opinion, I do not wish to devalue it, but your previous comment seemed very much like you were unwilling to acknowledge the opinions of others.
