I wouldn't recommend a eheim jäger. I had started switching over to them. I had a 200 watt jäger quit about a month ago. I just had a 150 watt jäger quit this weekend. The light is on like they're heating, but they never heat. Hopefully everybody doesn't end up having those problems. I'm still using one jäger though on a 180 gallon. Everything else is a aqueon pro or jbj true temp titanium heater now. The aqueon pro heaters I use ranco controllers on,since the internal thermostat is unreliable. Well one of the aqueons is controlled by a jbj true temp controller. I forgot to unplug the jbj heater when I did a water change and found out they don't turn off if out of water. I used some hydor theo submersible heaters and they were really unreliable. The temperature fluctuated a lot and one I happened to notice had a tank up to 90. When I first got them they were off by about 1 degree from where I set them to where they actually heated to. When I got rid of them I had them all set to 71, to get the tank heated to 78. They're the main reason I switched to using external controllers on all of my heaters.

Just got a eheim jäger lol! Hopefully I don't have the same issues you did... My eheim jäger keeps it right where I set the temp at. I like it so far. I always unplug all my appliances when doing water changes too.
