I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the ball out of the Fluval intake tube and did it help increase the intake. Thanks.

No, I messed with it when I got my 206. It not only didnt have any effect on flow (unless ig gets clogged of course) but it also ruins the whole "AquaSeal" or whatever they call their self priming system. Meaning I'm fairly certain that if you removed it, you'd drain your tank if you ever tried to unhook the canister :nilly:

Mine has fallen off before and shown no increase in flow. If you remove it you won't flood your room when removing the aquastop valve but when you turn off the canister water will not stay in the hoses causing to have to reprime everytime you do a wc.

I have it out of both my 305 and 405. Figured itd help the flow a little bit. It doesnt really ruin the seal either, and whats posted above unless i misunderstood isnt right. When you wanna take your canister off you tank, there is two levers at the bottom. First one you have to move cuts off flow, second detaches hoses from canister. Go clean, return, rehook and plug in and your back filtering again. Done it countless times on both of my tanks and both of my filters. What it does do, is make priming and starting a completely empty canister very tough. When you use the plunger to suck in water, whatever is left on the in tank side of the hose would just drain back in, rather than stay in the hose making the next pump more effective. However, I always fill my canister back up with tank water after cleaning, then rehook it, plug it in and immediately open the flow lever and its starts running just as it was before. No need to yank on the goofy primer.

It looks like the consensus agrees and removing really has no major advantage or improvement. Plus the self priming aspect makes sense. Looks like I'll just leave well enough alone. Thanks everyone for your feedback!
