Looking at getting back into the hobby after maybe 10 years out of it. Ideally i was after a Fluval Shaker 345 and then looking at central american cichlids but funds are a tadge tight.
As such it leaves me with a few options....
Use a spare 3ftx1ft tank as a grow out for what i want (filter it with an Fx2) and get the 345 late 2026 /early 2027
Or get either the Fluval Roma 240 or Shaker 252 now and just be happy with a little less choice...
I've never kept central americans but have kept other SA cichlids over the year.
For the 345 i ideally wanted the following:
1 x Firemouth or Ellioti - Could get this in the grow out for now
1 x Convict - Could get this in the grow out for now
1x Jack Dempsey
1 x Nicaraguan
1 x Rainbow Cichlid
a few senegal bichirs and a school of dither fish. - could get these in the grow out
For the 240/252 how would the above list realistically change? Guessing no JD or Nicaraguan? Would the grow out option work with Firemouth and Convict for a year or too small?
