Id have too say i like Fluval at the current moment because Rena is Very hard too get Parts For here in Autsralia or im just looking in the wrong places

If it was between the Fluval FX5 Vs. Rena XP4 then I'd go with the FX5. The bigger canister for me mean more room for media. I think the people that like Renas choose it for the ease of cleaning.

I've never used a Rena Filter, but I have 2 Fluvals and both work well. I've had my Fluval 404 since 2004 and it still runs fine and I've only replaced a few parts on it. The Fluval 405 hasn't had a problem yet.

i really like fluval, they never fail on me. tried rena and didn't like it

Fluval all the way! I own Fluval FX5. 405, 305 and a Rena XP3. All my Fluvals are awesome! They are super quiet, easy to set up, and works superbly. My Rena XP3 is a bit louder and it also comes with a complex Lego style pipes and fittings which is more complicated than the Fluvals. The Fluval FX5 has a computer circuit board that turns off the filter by itself and lets the trapped air bubbles purge from the canister then starts up again all automatically. I think that this is the coolest feature.

Im ganna shoot with Rena. I have a X4 and it is great. I clean the canister once every 4-5 months as I hear Fluval you have to do it more often cause it sucks up so much. I also like the accesories that Rena give you to be able to change it up a bit. And their customer service is AWSOME!!!
I never owned a X5 but have been tempted to get one. Only thing is it takes up to much room in comparison to the Rena. Not bashing the X5 for 1 sec, just feel the Rena fits me and my set up more

I also like the flow of the Rena as I have a U/V connected to it. I say the slower the current the more the U/V hits...again, JMO
