are they good? will a 404 do great in a 30 gallon with 4'' jd? whats the pros and cons on these filters? i ehard they were great, i also heard they sucked... so what is it? any feedback on them would be great~

I think a 404 might be too strong for you tank. But i gotta say i like where your head's at. i have a 404 on my 55 with bio-rings and about 250ml of purigen. I don't run it full steam either. i think its a good filter and very strong.

Agreed - don't have any experience with series 4 (use 303's and 304's) but I've never had a problem with their product....

I'm using a 404 on a 30g tank. Plus an ac 300. It houses a ray and an 8 in aro

404s are allright. The price is right and its pretty flexible. Cons are that they are hard to prime and there is a significant amount of current not passing through the media.

i think a fluval 404 is overkill for a 30 gallon. probable be more money efficient with an aquaclear110 (500 model). can fit the same amount of media for more than half the price.

I agree with evrything but the current part, please explain.

and I swear I'm not pickin on ya this time. Its a serious question,I dont understand why the current would not pass through media properly.Would'nt placing the media in the baskets properly prevent dead spots or am I missing the point all together.

A fluvals design allows water to pass over the media baskets than through them.
Compared to ,say , an eheim where all the water current is forced to go through, the media, a fluval will let the water run on the side, and bypassing the media chambers.
