I have a baby FRT that's about 3 inches right now.

I'm feeding him Hikari sinking pellets and carnivore pellets as well as reptomin. I've tried feeding him fruit, but he hasn't touched anything. I know the pellets are around 40% protein and I should only be feeding him 30% max. Are there any packaged pellets out there that are less than 30? I've checked my lfs and haven't found anything.

I currently drop in one pellet at a time and wait till he finishes it then throw in another until he loses interest. This works out to 5-10 pellets a day, is this too much or too little?

Also what type of shrimp, fish, worms can I feed him?

I would try dandelion greens, my FRTs absolutely love them. I would caution against collecting them from your yard unless you know there are no pesticides used in the area. You can often get them at better grocery stores in the produce section. Mine are also big fans of strawberry.

Most baby turts wont toch fruit for at least a few mouths or even years;) In the mean time besides what your already feeding your turt needs fiber, for that and to start getting him into the veggys wich will be the main corse in the future you should leave peaces of dark leaf vegetables floating in the tank all time and replace them once a day, dont put too much at once, mustard greens, chicory greens, dandilions, collard greens and water cress. No spinach or letuce. Also you can give him high fiber pelets made for herbivorus fish like livebears and malawi chiclids. You dont need alot of fish or shrimp in its diet for now because all the animal protein he needs is already in the pellets you giving, however some brine shrimp wont hurt. Leave woule white fish and big shrimp to its adulthood

Not only its tasty but also one of the absolute best foods you can give both to yourself and to any herbivorus reptile;) Its soooo funny that people love letuce wich is basicly nitrates and water in the form of a plant and are allways trying to get rid of the nutricious dandilion because it ruins their lawn:grinno:

Wow, less than fifteen minutes and three responses. Thank you both.

Ill try to continue to wean him onto greens.

As far as the amount of pellets. Should I reduce it from the current 5-10 or increase it.

Keep it, if he eats it fine, just make shure you give it in small porcions true out the day, apart from the greens. In 6 mouths your going to swich the pelets to every other day, but the greens can be given unlimited acess all time

I would minimize feeding your current diet and use algae wafers instead.

I use Aquarian Algae Eater Chips, 28% protein.

I also feed seedless grapes, kiwi and various other fruits. Go to your grocery store and buy several different types and see which one your turtle prefers.

Make sure you wash them good, or simply buy organic because of the pesticides.

You can feed high protein food once in a while, it won't harm your turtle as long as it's not a regular part of it's diet. So you can keep the cichlid pellets and reptomin because they are also very nutritious, just feed those sparingly.

Its April

AND

it just snow.. and still snowing as I speak...

Don't think danelion would grow any time soon

You have the same problem as I do :3

and this is the alternative solution I can find

a little over 30%.. and my FRT loves it

Hikari Staple Fish Food

min protein 35%
