Why is there a RTC in there? I hope it's in there for recovery or something.

in where?

Even if you had the frt with gravel for years, that is uselly a problem with their shell. All softshell should have sand because where they come from in the wild is mostley sandy bottoms.

Vin if all else fails there's always the vet. I know of one in Staten Island that i was going to take my FRT to. It's on Post Rd. Also Joel knows of one around North Jersey. There's also an exotic pet specialist in Red Bank.

ok... i had something very similar actually vinny... First i know you have used the same setup for awhile but you should really have a good UV on a tank with an FRT.. Due to algaes and fungus that can easily grow on their shell. not sure if the gravel is an issue but she will definitely like sand much more... As for treating it i would remove any fish that may not tolerate salt but add salt at 1 tblspn per 10 gallons and a few days later do a 40% water change and replace the salt and increase it to about 1 tblspn per 7.5 gallons and another until your almost at 1 tblspn per 5 gallons. Some fish may not like it but the turtle will tolerate it. the shell is must likely a bacterial algae that just happens sometimes... the stomach is probably some sort of rash that will heal faster than the top of the shell. Keep up with good water changes. Hope this helps but its just a little common to what anyone else would say. i would though get a good UV for the tank either way and make sure the pump you use for it is not any stronger, GPH wise, than it suggests. Fx5 is a great filter but honestly between keeping tank levels stable and oxygen high in a tank, nothing is better than a sump/wet-dry.. Anyone who knows more please feel free and corrct me to help vinny out. Hope it all works out but don't panic cause even if you tackle this right, it wont heal over night.. Will take some time

wow! thats odd, i dun own a frt nor will i ever own 1 :( but i have seen many many pics and never seen anything like this..goodluck with her mate!

Ok, Need help from all you FLY RIVER turtle keepers... I have had my little girl for well over 3 years now and I am noticing a few issues as she ages and I hope that this is all normal.. Here is the situation. She is in a large 100 gallon tank, plenty of room and an FX5 filtration...so her environment is always perfect. Now I noticed two problems, she is getting these yellow spots on her skin/shell... please look at the pics... I used melafix and salt treatments along with water changes etc. The fish in the tank are perfect health! I know there is no disease. No new fish everyone has been together for along time. So her shell is my concern. I know she bumps into things in her tank and might scratch but these seem like bumps that arent scratches... Her second issue is underneath on her belly ...which i cant get pics of she has wat looks like red patches. Not scratches but red bumps maybe 1 inch by 1 inch. She is playful and acting / eating fine.. ANYONE???

I've never seen that before but it could be some sort of fungus. Do you have space to isolate your FRT to see if it improves there? You can try using a soft cloth and dip into and then wipe the shell and skin of the PNT to a certain extend that the dead skin and fungus can be wiped off.

If possible, you can dip the cloth into warm water as the warm water could kill off the fungus as well.

When you place your FRT back into the water, add some salt and increase your water temp as this helps to increase the immune system of your FRT.

Take your FRT out for a sun bath or UV bath. You do this by putting your FRT in a shallow basin and cover it with some water but leave the shell exposed. 15 - 20 mins will do.

2. Red Bumps
It could be abrasion and it's getting inflamed. I would replace the gravel with soft sand or just keep the tank bare.

3. Tank Mates
Can I know what are the tank mates of the FRT?

4. FRT Price
It's banned for sale where I am now, but in Malaysia which is like a 15 min walk across the bridge joining our 2 countries, I can buy a 3" FRT for RM$ 6 which works out to be a little over USD$ 1 :x
