My ph straight outta the tap is 8.3 and holds well as I do water changes every 3-4 days. I should have enough salt to bring it up to 1.002

Nice FRT, aquarium salt is fine but i wouldn't convert to brackish. They likely can tolerate mild brackish conditions but ideal would be hard fresh water. Sounds like what's comming out of your tap is at a good level so I wouldn't mess around with it!

African cichlids do amazingly well in our tap water which is why I've never messed with it for him

Where did you all acquire your FRTs? I'll probably be forever in a search for one, but figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

You can't get them anymore, unless it's one that is already in the country. It is illegal to import them into North America.

I don't think it is illegal to import them. It is illegal to export them.

Correct on FRTs being illegal to export. The 3 countries the species occurs in have banned all trade in live FRTs.

Any kaw against importation? I am aware of some small ones being available recently. Might have been captive bred. Might have been smuggled too.

There's no such thing as 'captive-bred' FRTs. The US has banned importation of FRTs since their exportation point would have to have illegally exported (aka: smuggled) the species in the 1st place.

This ones 10+ years old and I've only seen one other in my province and it's of equivalent age.
