So, spent the whole day cleaning the tank, changing water, testing params ,cleaning sand , sump, and deep cleaning the skimmer ,added a few new fish, beautiful day here in thailand, had the windows open music blaring and beer flowing, .... Went to dinner, here's where it gets interesting, this time of the year we get the occasional flying ant swarms,,,, windows open only light on in the house is on the main tank and fuge, get home to see the fish and eels in a feeding frenzy took a few minutes to realize what was happening....1000 plus flying ants floating on the surface of the tank and fuge skimmed about 95% of them out.... Should I worry????? Water change again? WTF ... Fish look very happy with their lil buffet of flying pestilence ... Any idea? bet this is a first for the site

If they were into pesticides it could be bad for your fish. But if nothing happens its free food

sounds like food to me, I just wouldn't leave them in there to long as they could start to breakdown feeding the nitrogen cycle.

Remove all of them that you can and don't worry about the ones that were already eaten, obviously can't do anything about it anyway.

Were they actually flying ants, or could they have been termites?

Exactly what dustin said.

Remove what is left, test your h2o for quality, and then perform an h2o change as necessary.

Mm nope ants, locals fry'em up and snack away.... Good for a laugh everything looks clear so far got 99 percent out the rest ended up in the fishes ... Everyone seems happy and playing as usual, water params look stable

Ants I believe. I've had this rare swarm in my house before. It was ridiculous spraying with insecticides and sweep them off filling dust pans to their max.:nilly:
