foam on top of tank????

Salt will not cause the foaming problem.

Usually it is caused by excess organics. As others have said, it could come from the food, water additives (conditioners with a "slime coat" additive will do this), or medication. Driftwood in the tank??

If water changes do not help, I would add some fresh carbon to your filtration, this will adsorb the organics in the water.

i did have drift wood but it was too crowded with he clay pots so i took it out, i will try carbon to see if it works out.
