During the summer here in Texas, you start to see crazy amount of bugs. When they get out of hand the most effective and cost efficient way to get rid of them is by fogging. We fog the house once and sometimes twice during the summer, but the last time I did it... most of the stock I had in my 20g died (lots of inverts), the 55g with the larger fish did not seem to suffer any stress, although I could be wrong. I just know they didn't die or act funny after. A big heavy towl always seem to do a good job, but I'm looking for this not to happen again. Anyone have any good ideas on how we can still fog and not kill all the fish?? Although I am considering not ever doing it again, I'm sure that feeling will soon disintegrate as soon as I see a bug the size of a cow about to walk over my feet.

We have tried straying outside, straying inside, filling in cracks with that foamy stuff, sticky pads but still the most effective has been fogging:(.

I had to fog my house a few years ago and I used saran wrap to completely cover the top of my tanks. Made sure it was a completely tight seal. I didn't lose a single fish throughout the ordeal.
Good luck.

I put blankets and sheets over the tops of my tanks when we fogged the house. I didnt lose any either. I like the wrap idea better though. The biggest thing I was afraid of is the air pumps. I put them under the sheet as well because I didn't want the fogged air to be pumped into the aquariums.

I think this is what may have happend to mine, or a good part of it.. because the back of the stand is open, there sat the air pump exposed...:( it still makes me sad..

i dont know but woldnt completely covering them make the o2 drop and potentialy killing the fish.

How long would it take for this to happen? We leave the house for about 3 hours and come back and open everything up..

I have had issue like this before but I prefer to use a canister sprayer. You can go to any Farm supply or
equipment store, even online and purchase commercial/exterminator grade pesticides and spray the house
your self. It is a concentrate that you add water to. Just keep the wand close to the floor and stay
several feet away from the tanks. Much less risk of contaminating the tank/tanks.

its along the same like as suran wrap, but a painters sheet (the plastic kind) duct taped to the rim, that way you wouldn't have to over lap the suran.
