Hello I am new to gars and got my first yesterday he is a 3" Florida gar and has eaten frozen bloodworms. My question is what is the best possible food the help him grow and be happy and healthy

What type of guppies like the fancy guppys and how do I know they are safe.

Those will work, but the feeder quality ones will be far cheaper. Just quarantine them for a couple of weeks to be safe; it's okay to give it non-quarantined ones for the time being, though, as starvation and/or stunting is a great possibility at this size.

It needs to have live food available at all times until it gets to be 8" to 10" long, so give it feeder guppies and/or small rosy reds to start and move it up to larger rosy reds later on.

From my limited experience, I disagree. I bought two 6" Floridas from a friend, and they started eating tilapia within the first week. I never fed them any feeders, and they went from tilapia to Massivore very quickly and grew nicely.

Maybe you are right if they are only 3" and won't eat anything other than bloodworms, but I'm not sure about having to keep them on feeders until 8-10 inches.

I think feeder goldfish are better because they have much for meat and fat.
