Food for fahaka

when I had a fahaka he would eat half she clams but he would just eat the meat, How do fahakas beaks get trim if they are just eating the meat. I guess the only thing they can eat to trim their beaks would be cray fish. I tried apple snails but he paid them no mind. so I finally gave up and sold him. I do want to try again but if some one can drop some knowledge on me it would be great.

With Clams, the best way to get them started in it is to open the clam shell just a little but so they can get their teeth between the shell, then normally, if they have enough jaw strength, they can break apart the shell and get to the meat, which helps keep their terrh trim, and fed at the same time.,,
