what would be betterfor my RBP. nightcrawlers of feeder goldfish. or is there something better??????????

I never feed my piranha live food. It will bring disease to the piranha..

raw shrimp
clams
scallop
fish fillet
pellet
worm
silver side
smelt
beef heart
frozen food are good for them...stay away from live feeding.

dried baby shrimp, krill, market shrimp, white meat fish filets, cichlid pellets.....

I could add more to that list, but I need someone else to pick up here!!

Live feeders carry so many diseases that your fish can contract. It's better and healthier to wean your fish off of them, and onto prepared foods.

Goldfish are very fatty and are the equivalent of eating crisco.....not very good for ya.

if you MUST have feeders, I would suggest getting a pair of convict cichlids and breeding your own healthy feeders. BTW, GUTLOAD first!!

Goldfish are among the worst thing you can feed see below
reason 1 They are kept in horrible conditions
reason 2 They are often diseased
reason 3 They often are carriers of parasites
During quarantine dispose of the obviously sick or diseased. The remaining ones feed quality
foods a healthy feeder is of course better for your fish.
Goldfish just generaly are poor feeders and should be avoided. they are oily not very nutritious and constant feed of them causes faty deposits on the liver leading to premature deaths. They also contain very high levels of Thiaminase a destroying hormone. While many fish used as feeders contain this goldfish seem to have an abundance of it.Another issue is a spine at the front of the dorsal fin which can lead to problems if the goldfish is swollowed the wrong way (tailfirst).Yet another reason not to use goldfish, goldfish farms utilize copper meds in suspension form to combat diseases in the feeders associated with overcrowding. These copper meds are retained by the feeders for long periods after they leave the farms. Most lfs invariably retain all or part of the feeders shipping water when the feeders are loaded into their bins/tanks. And copper does not dissapate from a closed system.-Anne

One other issue with feeding goldfish and rosie reds, they contain thiaminase (sp?) this prevents the eater from properly proscessing thiamine (vitamin B1) and can lead to long term healthissues such as edema, heart damage, and muscular atrophy. In humans it causes phychosis and Beri Beri.
The damage takes a long time to show up and in general only occurs if the fishes diet is almost excusively goldies or rosies.

so basically my gars are in danger being that vthats all they will eat. my pirahna will eat anything (especially my water changing hose) so i will change his diet. also 20 small rosies in a 10gal being fed omega one flakes and being treated with salt and parasite clear. i think that there healthy. i know they are in really bad conditions at the lfs but i dont think 20 per 10gallons is pushing it, do you

well any live fish can carry parisites

how long do you quarintine them before feeding?

also think though its much healthier and just as easy to feed frozen

what about frozen silversides for my pirahna
