i no i ask alot of questions about arowana's but everybody here seems to know what there talking about.. so my question is what is a good food for them... and what are some good tank mates for them...... im thinking about selling my new 120 and getting a 180 or bigger so i can get a arownan.. :

Mine eats shrimp, beefheart, pellets, crickets......basically anything that his the top of the water....as far as tank mates I have a clown knife, Jag, albino Channel cat, flowerhorn, and an oscar. There are a lot of fish that can go with arowanas, depending on what type it is.

I usually pick up live minnows from the bait shop for 75 cents a dozen. But he's been out of minnows for about 3 - 4 days. So today I tried some frozen silversides. He didn't go after them right away, but I did see him pick them up off the bottom. I guess he's hungry enough to anything at this point.

Are you nutz??? Bait shop fish carry LOTS of diseases, and could cause the demise of your aro! Next time you get some....I would not...You may want to try putting them in a "salt" bath before feeding them to your aro...Take a 5 gallon bucket with some slightly warm water, and dump in about 3-4 tablespoons of salt in it, then let them "soak" in it for about 20 min....This works for any feeder fish you may buy...I do this when I get feeders...and I its only for a "treat" once a month!

i feed mine hikari CE pellets as a staple, shrimps from my grocery store, nightcrawlers

i try small crickets but i need big one, she just cant see the lil ones (drop eye)

my silver eats: market shrimp, tilapia fillet, krill, beefheart, jumbomin pellets, shrimp pellets and occasionally mealworms although there are many different opinions about mealworms. Tankmates are: P. senegalus, JD, Convicts, Rainbow wolf, Black Ghost Knife, and a few others. all are young at the moment and the aro will eventually be moved to a much larger tank. currently in 150g.
