I'd like to find some other foods for my larger predators. Their diet consists of bloodworms, silversides, large krill and chopped earthworms. I also feed cichlid gold pellets and sinking carnivore pellets. I want them to have plenty of variety in their diet. I picked up some raw unseasoned cod fish, I believe it's safe to feed, but I just wanted to check. I was also looking for raw unseasoned shrimp, however all of it seems to contain small bits of sodium, I did buy some. But I'm not too sure that it's safe to feed, I thought if I soaked the shrimp it would probably get the majority of the salt off.

Also, what are some other foods suitable for them? I was going to try and find some prawns and muscles as well. I've been trying to find something my jade goby will eat, so I'm trying out different foods. The most I've gotten it eat is a few bloodworms a day (I've also tried various vegetables).

Not sure how much this will help, but i personally feed my fahaka any one of the following frozen foods from the supermarket (de-frosted first obviously)

Mussels, Clams, Scallops, Prawns, Tried Talipa (but non of my fish would eat it) and also breed my own Marble Crays...

I've also heard squid and octopus is okay? although i've never personally tired it before...

I did find some uncooked scallops, but I wasn't sure if they were ok to feed. I'll pick some up then. The only thing I know I shouldn't feed is salmon, I think it's too fatty. I'll have to pick up some more food later today, I haven't been able to find much that doesn't have salt or butter in it/on it though.

I think i've read some people in the US buy bags of assorted seafood from the frozen section o the supermarket and feed that to their fish?

So maybe you can see if a supermarket near you has something similar in the frozen foods section?

I did find this seafood mix, it was perfect, but it was cooked. So that kind of sucked, I may need to leave my comfort zone and go to a chinese supermarket, or something.

I tried feeding the cod, the only ones who are interested in it is my common pleco and my Senegal bichir. One reed fish almost ate it, but spit it out half way through.

Do you think low amounts of salt are safe for fish to have? I'd like to try the shrimp tomorrow but it's seasoned with salt.

Pretty much any seafood will be safe for fish to eat. Small amounts of sodium should be fine, but try to limit it as much as possible. Asian markets are a great place to look...

watch out for preservatives imo, but i try and feed a wide array of pellets, frozen, and live. i also stick with fw " seafood"... protein/fat contents will be better balanced. my fish gobble up fw prawns but spit out sw shrimp...

oh and my gar love eating scraps of walleye and panfish... i just freeze it first to avoid bacteria and parasites as much as possible. but any white fleshed fish is generally fine to try. i often get an extra portion of whatever looks good for my dinner.
