I feed my cichlids worms. I've also fed carrots that I had leftover from my rabbit. They ate the carrots no problem. Also fed a small 1/4" piece of grilled chicken with no spices or anything just the chicken.
My oscar is very picky with what he eats, won't eat earthworms, fish alive or dead or anything that moves on its own. The only foods I can get him to eat is krill, pellets and bloodworms.
I did read something about feeding meal worms and super worms though, I guess you should only feed them right after they moult. And I want to keep them that long, frankly they scare me.

by the time they get to you, 90% of superworms are past their moulting stage and will pupate, not moult. nothing wants to eat a pupae. dropping the superworms into the water kils them in about .5 seconds. they drop straight to the bottom and headstand until they get eaten or saturated.
Ive fed supermarket whole smelt its individually frozen with no preservatives. ive also fed the rings and tentacles of bait squid. ive been curious to try the other raw fish they sell at my stores but my husbands always goes blah blah blah about the sodium crap.
