Fool's Gold/Pyrite in my aquarium?! Siren unaffected?

Hello; Perhaps this is a situation where there is a benefit in removing the rock in question?

I'm asking because I want to see if it's possible to keep it. Also curious as to why it's questionable and yet still hasn't caused any adverse effects in anything yet. >>

I'm in a submarine & hear it "could" have a leak--> most my priorities have already changed.

;-)

Alright, I'll take it to a couple places and have someone look at it who can properly see and comment on it. It's worth it to me to do at least that before just dumping it.

Iv never heard pyrite to be bad for fish, and I still dont see pyrite. Remove the stone and take a proper picture.

I don't understand why this is in question? It isn't like it's going to rust even if it is pyrite. I see exactly what you are talking about, but it looks way blurry and way white. I wouldn't worry about it, I am sure there are places in the world where pyrite occurs naturally in fish habitats without any problems at all. After all it isn't like you found a piece of nuclear waste floating across the top of your tank.

He's just trying to identify what it is.
Enclosed system isn't comparable to open & running waters.

Hello; Yes. In a small aquarium, compared to any natural body of water, a small amount of toxin can cause problems. The same reason we do not run gasoline engines in a closed building but sort of get away with doing so in the open, at least for a while.

Hey all, I've taken up the question to some knowledgeable contacts on mine and I'm getting an all-clear for the most part. I will take the rock out at some point and get a better picture though for this thread for future answer-seekers.
Also to KEister, the patches aren't white, it's my crap camera reflecting the light. The true colour is a brassy yellow (almost greenish tinge), and very shiny.
