For a while, I was thinking about selling my tank...

...because I can't keep a Dovii and I've been a little 'tank depressed' since he's been gone. There's not a single fish I can think of to be a fitting Dovii replacement with the personality mine had. :(

After much thinking, I'm going to try to find a pair of F0 or F1 Aequidens Rivalatus sp. gold saum. I know a lot of people think they're common but it's the fish that got me into the hobby in the beginning and I think a nice pair might cheer me up. Plus they should fit in my tank happily for life without giving me a guilt trip.

Any ideas, comments or suggestions?
 
Funny - I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Gold saums are one of the most beautiful large SAs. A proper pair should look stunning. Why even think about what other people deem as "common" ;).

i take it you managed to find a good home for your dovii? last thing i knew you were trying but hadn't succeeded.

it sucks that your feeling like that mate. if a pair of saums will cheer you up then go for it.
 
The guy at my lfs knew a guy with a pond here in the Dallas area willing to take him and he hooked it up. I gave him away free just to give him a good home. It sucks walking into the fishroom everyday not seeing his smiling face. I feel as empty as the space in my tank.

Anyone know where I can get some F0 or F1 GT's?

Well, as much as I loved the Dovii, my wife said he had to go. She stays home all day and he's constantly hitting the glass so hard, she can hear the smacks all the way across the house. He hits the lids too and they come crashing back down. She said he's too crazy and was scared to death of 265 gallons of water filling up the house. Well, all in all, the wife comes before the fish so she won out. :(
 
F0 Gold Saum's are absolutely gorgeous fish. If I had it to do all over again I'd have QT'd and prazi'd the fish immedately. Mine came with parasites up the arse - literally. Eventually his demise and almost the demise of all my new worlds. Go for it!

Sounds like your Dovii's in a good place - a nice big pond to conquer and rule.
