I noticed last night....The weirdest thing about my 18 inch silver and my 12 inch Jardini.....I believe one to be a female and one to be a male.....If one has ever watched snakeheads breed (useing that, because it's the only thing I have seen that was similar to this). This guys are showing the same traits...Constantly rubbing on eachother-intertwining(sp),etc,etc...

Does it sound like a male and female to you guys....

I have a pretty good idea that they can not breed together-But what are the chances since I dont know for sure...

How do I tell which species would be female or male.....

What would it also take to breed one or the other....

i have the same with my silver/jar experiment as well. the silver is about 12" and the jar is about 11" and i see them swimming side by side and when they turn they rub each other. i thought it was weird since almost everyone wants to believe that a jar/silver comm. cant be done. someone else on this forum is also having the same situation with his jar/silver comm. rubbing each other

i dont think it is likely that you will be able to find out the sex of your aro. i believe for aros to be fully matured it takes 2 years and at about 24" for silver at least. not too sure about jar, but im assuming its going to be the 2 year mark as well.

it would take a large tank for them to breed.

sounds large enough. I can imagine them trying to breeding, although not much would come of it

Thanks-
Not sure on age cause they were donated to me-

They are in a 6' x 4' x 3' tank-They have plenty of room

that must be an awesome aro tank with the 3' depth

4 foot depth 3 foot high and 6 foot in length-Sorry I didn't clarifiy that...

I would like to know the answer to this...I didn't think they could breed-
But I wouldn't mind picking up a mate for one or the other if I could know the sex....I certainly dont want to buy another two of them...

What you should do? Sexing either of these fish visually is most likely impossible. I would just enjoy the mix you have and not add anymore aros. Seems that you have been one of the few that has been able to keep a jar and silver together, although the jar still could snap. Do you have plans for if the jar does start attacking the silver aro?
