i have a 14" silver with a 12" jar they do this too but i does sometimes lead to the jar biting the silvers fins which leaves them a bit tatty. but usually they just swim around together.
 
they won't breed..anyway, if things proceed the male should be the one ( should, only ..not is ) to pick up the eggs in his mouth.
 
mine did the same thing. it was the jar testing the silver. eventually the jar became stronger and overturned the silver. i had them togeother for about 2 years b4 i had to seperate them because the silver almost died. u might have better luck w the big tank.
