I'm getting a 300gal for my living room But I'm building my own stand because it is going to be mounted in a wall. I've built stands for smaller tanks but this is a monster . Is there any precautions or recommendations on building a stand for this big boy Thanks

Over kill....mine is built out of 2x4s and 2x6s doubled up on each other....build it to handle whatever you throw at it.

Id use atleast 4x4s or 4x6s for posts an 2x4s or 2x6s for the tank base an bottom. Finish look would be your choice, But for a 300Gal Id say beefy =piece of mind.

300 glass damn that'll be fun to install (better check to see you have medical insurance as well as home owners) and trying to find 6 or 8 fellas who'll help you will be fun too (have beer and pizza ready). Fill weight close to 3500+ pounds (glass, stand and all) The floor should be concrete and the install should take place on it. I wouldn't rest easy knowing it's on wooden beams and such.

I'd have 6 or 8 supports spaced accordingly of 4x4's to start with, a good central load barring retaining wall (1.5" thick at least) and at least 3 side walls 1.5" thick plywood of quality. The front will have either drawers or doors (I hope the glass tank is not drilled for a sump  ) it'll be for holding crap. I picture at least one side with drawers and there will be enough room for a sump (with a over clip on flow) on the other if you so choose. Make sure the top of the stand is flat and without any bows or dips (I wouldn't use cheap plywood here 1.5") as for the bottom same thickness as the top. Stain it as you wish then seal it with poly with plenty of coats (inside and out). I wouldn't use any Partical or MDF boards just because they're like a sponge.

I'll bet the stand will weigh in as much as the tank.

 can't wait to see this thing. i'll order some back braces for us from the orthopaedic guy. so we don't completely ruin our backs when moving it.

I am also planning on making this stand 36" tall so it will be closer to eye level when entering the room. Any thoughts on this? Will it be ok that tall?
