I'm thinking about adding a FX5 to my 170 to go along with the w/d I'm currently running. The sump is only about 30G with a 600GPH pump (came with the tank) and I'm wanting a bit more filtration, particularly mech. I'm wondering how much hose it comes with. My tank is 30" tall and the stand is close to that also, and my tank has 5" eurobrace so I'm going to need quite a bit of hose length to get from the top of the FX5 up and over the bracing...I don't want to dick around with random hose and clamps so I'd like to know in advance if I need to get an extra piece of fluval hose or if it comes with enough.

my tank and stand is prolly around 50" or so and i have some slack but i coubt another 10" worth

youll be fine. the FX5 come with a big long hose (13ft i wanna say) and you just cut it into two pieces for the sizes you need

yeah your right JC the supplied hose is 13.1ft. (4m)

(I have the book right in front of me lol)

I just cut my hose 2 nights ago for my 2nd FX5... 13'1" Long...

on my set up its prolly cause the filters are under the stand and the hose has to reach around crap up to the tank

you should have enough hose.....you should really like the FX5....I love mine.....

if u dont end up having enough hose you can always buy more, they sell it at my lfs, its the genuine fx5 hose as well made by fluval :)

you're on the right track with the wet dry, why would you want to add an unreliable problematic hagen product? build a bigger sump and get a bigger mag drive pump and you'll be WAY better off. i had a fx5 and after the third problem i went to a trickle filter and will NEVER use a crappy canister ever again! sump is the only way to fly!
