For stotty

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You the man :D I just love to see those catches. Don’t forget the small ones are normally males there could be some big Mothers in there if you know what I mean. Get some bigger live bait out there and keep those pictures coming.

This is a typical live bait rig we use in the UK live baits work better than the dead but I have caught all my biggest pike on dead bait’s the really big ones tend to get lazy if you are using a dead bait get a fork and give it a few stabs this help the natural Juices to escape into the water.

That’s a cool fish on light tackle were you using a single hook? The best thing to use is a gang of treble’s hooks on a wire trace. When you get the take let it run for 15 seconds or so this is so the fish can turn the bait in its mouth then strike this way you get more hook ups years ago people used to let them go for a good 60 sec. but you used to beep hook them.

ive never had much luck with a steel leader...i always seem to catch more pike not using a steel leader and using like 20lb test line instead

That’s funny I have an Australian friend that swears never use a wire trace. But every time I have not used one I have been bittern off (this is on a Lure no a live or dead bait) it’s the Norm in the UK that’s why I like discussing things like this on hear as the style of fishing changes so much around the world.;)

I swear by wire leaders just don't buy the cheap ones and it will not affect the action of the lure too much.

Yup I was using a single hook. I don't really like treble hooks because they are so damaging to the fish. I would hate to snap off a pike with a treble hook holding his mouth shut so he can slowly starve to death:( .

There is a much better chance of the hook just falling out on its own with single and I never seem to miss any fish because of it.

But my friend who lost the other 2 because they missed the hook switched to a treble set up just like the one in the Pic. In MI they are sold under the name "Pike Tamer".

Did i mention I took the single hook out of that fish's mouth with my bare hands because my forceps where in the car  I just took a deep breath and hoped my hand didn't look like hamburger soon  No damage done but he did snap at me a few times :headbang2

If you are ever in the states stotty we have to go fishing I AM SERIOUS :naughty:

I will hold you to that. :naughty: On the Trebles thing if you crush the Barbs down with a set of strong pliers they just fall out.

i also catch them on flyrods so that might also be why i have never had much luck with steel leaders...but then again the pike out here in CO that i have caught are on average around 30-35 inches lol
