For the benefit of future Aro keeping

I might have mentioned that the floating plants I was talking about are plastic along the rest of the 'plant's' in that tank ...LOL

oh...never did the plastic plant thing...

Yeah! Great point, Let's see here, umm reference the petting video, yep, that one was the nosiest in my business Aro I've ever had, he was my suicidal jumper. waaaaaahhhhhhhh

Plants! Yes! I did that too, top to stop them from trying to jump and at the ends the warning, end of tank plants are very helpful. Just be sure the plants don't have the wire inside.

This is so great! I'm so happy to see such a postive, offensive, proactive thread working!!!!

I put 2 clip on desk lamps with amber light bulbs at each end of the tank for nightlights. My Aro was terrified of the dark. Make that plural, all of my Aro's have been.

Pinky's the same way about the dark. My wife and I have been planning on setting up some blue LED 'moon lights' in her tank but my wifes recient operation sort of got in the way.

I used floating plastic plants for a while, it did keep the aros away from the top of the tank. With my black when I first got her, it provided some added security also. I eventually decided against them though, when a aro is spooked it moves without consideration for where it is going or where it will end up. The plastic plants may just provide another hazard that the mouth, eyes, gills, or fins could be injured upon. If a spooked aro jumped through the plant, it could become entangled in it.

Although floating plants may .seem as if they are an advantage, ultimately they are only taking swimming space away from the arowana

Very good point. I mix almond leaves (they're big) and separate fake bamboo into individual sprigs and attach them to the lid, just to provide cover and security without the danger of the fish getting snagged, very, very good clarification though, thanks!

i also use a "night light" for my aro tank...it's a small clock with a small green neon bulb....just throws a soft glow on the whole room at night, and gives me just enough light to see him if i walk out there in the dark...gotta agree with bderick about the plastic plants too...plus they just have that fake plant look...doesn't do it for me...
