Throughout my life I've had Lucid dreams (I'm 43). Some are more clear then others.

My question is should we uphold our morals inside a dream?

Of course once I realize I'm dreaming, I know I can do anything in the dream.

One time(when I discovered I was dreaming) I decided to have some fun by breaking into someone's house and attacking them. I was even about to rape the female but then I stopped and said to myself this is wrong... even in a dream. Being religious, I looked up and said to God, "please forgive me". Then I forced myself to wake up.

My thinking is that sometimes the way we behave in a dream could come from the way we really think.

Thoughts...

i thought it was scientifically proven that as soon as you realize your dreaming you wake up, thats how its always been with me

In my dreams nothing bad happens.. there's just random colors and flashes of light.. sometimes it's calm, sometimes it's stormy..

Not really, as a kid alot of times I was being chased. Once I realized I was dreaming... I would force myself to wake up. Later I noticed that I had "super powers" if you will, so I was staying in the dreams .

The trigger is getting excited. As long as I stayed calm I could stay in the dream. However many times I did come out of a dream when I didn't want to.

Thats your idea of fun? I would personally just go diving in the great barrier reef or something...

I feel like sometimes I can "control" my dreams too. And yet, I often find myself dreaming of things I would never do. So how much control is there? Probably not as much as we would like to think.

So should we uphold our morals while dreaming. There is no way to do this IMO.

If our dreams affected the way we think when we are conscience, I think the prison population would be more out of control than it already is.

50 mins on couch might help you clear your head. Tell me about your mother lol just joking bro!! Funny thread.

Having lucid dreams is a real talent, normaly people have to really train themselves to be able to induce it. But it seems you have an innate talent for it. That's cool.
Anyways me comming from my own anarchist and atheist viewpoint i say do what you want there your dreams and no one should have any say other than you. But this wouldn't probably fit with your views. As for whether it shows what your truely thinking well thats hard to say. The part of your brain that is the "watch what you say" or morality part of your brain is not functional while dreaming. essencialy what probabaly happend in your dream was you half woke up towards the end of it and the moral part of your brain kicked in and told you "HEY wait a minute" then you chose to wake up.

Lucid dreams are an interesting way of looking at what you would be like if you were lacking all the upbringing from society and religion. Because morality is a learned behaviour not one that is innate.

As for whether it's what your truely thinking that's more a philosophical debate rather than a scientific one. What is a viewpoint? is it your natural and rather unfeeling, unempathetic, view illustrated by the begining of your dream(and argueably the viewpoint every other animal on the planet has) or the feeling, empathetic choice illustrated by the end?

i completely agree
no there is no way while you are still in the full on dream state becuase all morality and empathy is gone until you begin to wake up

i just wish i had dreams often enough to practice lucid dreaming

i myself am a lucid dreamer, ive been having lucid dreams my entire life and my point of view is that in your dreams you should do whatever you please because you will never be able to do it in real life, hence the term dream.
