For those that have red devils

Not all red devils are pure. If you are getting youre devils from a pet store they might of some Midas in them. Midevils. Pure red devils are totally different there is a thread about them. But pure devils get a nice orange color the more healthy they are the more brighter the color is.

Store bought midevils have just as much color variation and intensity as any pure red devil and midas.

Just depends on the fish and the genetic and if its wild
Wild female
F1 male there is a big different between wild and f1

The color of any amphilophus is based on the genetics of the parents, whether a fish is wild, or F1million makes no difference. Ditto to if the fish is a midevil hybrid. As woofy stated previously; store bought midevils have just as much color variation and intensity as any pure red devil or midas.

In the wild the vast majority of citrinellum and labiatum never fade or peel, and remain barred for life. The wild specimens that are exported are usually colored (red/orange/yellow/white/black) specimens, just as most of the domestic strains are, as that's what's most popular to hobbyists.
